Highlighting dyed black hair?

I dyed my naturally dark brown hair black using a semi-permanent box color. It's been a few months and the color has faded slightly (more brown-black that inky), but my roots are still noticeable. I don't think I want to lighten my whole head myself because of the damage. Can I put in highlights to break up the black? What's the best way to do this?Highlighting dyed black hair?
Don't put highlights if your roots are showing. What ill happen is the part where the root is highlighted will be much lighter then down towards the end the highlights will get darker and less noicable. So your roots will be way light and it'll look silly. You'd have to color your hair again the same color then give yourself highlights. Or go to a salon and they can do a root touchup. Then you can highlight it once everything matches.Highlighting dyed black hair?
Black with highlights really looks like skunk hair which I'm sure is not what you want. Unless you have some like...brown or red highlights.

Really, if you want it, save up or you can always bleach it yourself and dye over, but that really does a number on your hair.
