Highlights is okay as foils never touch the scalp but if it the chemical does touch the scalp like a whole head shampoo type hear colouring then I wouldn't recommend it. Go for foil highlights!

If you use a wash out dye, which is called temporary on your hair and then use permanant haircolor on top, you don't leave permanant in you have to wash it out after it has processed you will wash your temporary color out. I am a professional and you will seriously mess your hair up. Now you could use a semi-permanant color. It doesn't wash out as easily as temporary.

you wont be able to go light with an organic colour. going light always involves using preoxide, form 8% - 40%.
continuing to lighten your hair will defo damage it in the long run. how about trying to highlight it? you can get away with longer spells inbetween applications as the colour is not block and wont look as obvious. i went as long as 6 months between getting my roots done!!
also, only get a partial head of highlights done, such as top and sides. it gives the illusion of a full head of beautiful light hair, but you'll geive you hair a chance to recover.
if you can get away with leaving it longer between colours, say 3-4 months, could you afford to got to hairdressers? it'll cost around 拢50 for the cut and colour....

Dying your hair at home is okay, I dyed mine at home and my hair is still soft. If you are concerned though you could try henna, it's natural and it works. Good luck!

Dying your hair strips it of moisture. But, it won't ';permanently damage'; your hair if you get decent conditioner.
Typically, the conditioner that comes with the hair dye is really good stuff. Leave it on for 2 minutes and wash it out after you've washed the dye out.. then use it every other day after that.
It keeps your hair moisturized and undamaged.
I have dyed my hair more times than I can count (I can show you a million photos with like over 100 different shades of hair, no lie) and I've bleached it at least 50 times in my life. I get bored with my hair color. I've been dying my hair for 12 years... But you know what? My hair's not damaged... far from it! Because I take good care of it. I buy good products - that's the key.

I would say shop around for a hairdresser to do your highlights. If you were doing any other colour at home, then it's usually fine. Start playing with bleach and highlights and you're asking for trouble.
Firstly not all highlighting kits brought in the shop are that good (or strong for that matter) as you have to take into account the colour of you natural hair so you are more than likely unable to get the blondness you want. Also, you have to watch out for the pigments in your natural hair colouring as this will have an effect on the colour of the high-lites - and I'm sure you don't want to be left with green shades or brassy types of blonde.
If you go to a stylist, they can recommend more varieties in terms of shades of blonde that will not only suite your skin, but will inhance your own hair colour too, and not only that, they can even incorporate 2 or even 3 shades of highlights in one go at no extra cost. Plus you get a nice decent cut %26amp; blow dry afterwards.
I found personally the only time it gets costly for colouring like this is the longer the hair as they use more product and it takes more time hence the cost of having hi-lights/ low-lites done in a salon.
Shop around and get quotes from local salons around your area. It's better than having to pay out in the long run for a -re-fix of a bodge job you've done yourself!
i dyed my hair on my own using a loreal kit that put some highlights in it and it was great they didnt grow out to quicky and the packet was good qualtity an not to expensive .it didnt ruin my hair and the roots wernt at all obviious i think continuous dying of the whole head ruins the hair.
I've dyed my hair lots at home (I recommend Garnier Multi-lights kit) and it's in great condition. However, it was quite greasy to start with so if you have dry hair it could dry it too much and lead to damage.

Hi, anytype of hair dye is bad for your hair even the one they use at the hairdressers. There all the same. As long as when you dye your hair yoou keep it in good condition, deep conditioning it with a hair mask and using heat protection spray and a leave in conditioner then your hair shouldnt suffer as much.
Nice and Easy isnt for highlighting you hair I recommend Jerome Russels Bblonde, but then you have the problem of redoing your roots when your hair shows through which can be a problem as it was for me. But I woould only recommed Nice and Easy if you are going to go all one colour, these dyes go on quite dark no matter how light your hair is,
So I recmmend Garnier Nutiresse, they light brown colours are nice and they last ages. And these tend to ccondition the hair as well as dyeing it..
Sometimes if you dye your hair and dont look after it with conditioners it can ruin the hair and it wont grow back. This was happening to me as I was dying my hair nearly every 2 weeks and my hair was weak and snapping off and wouldnt grow. I stopped dying it for a few months and once my hair had started growing again then the hair at the root was healthy, I now have long hair which I ve always wanted.
The best thing to do is notndye it at all, If your hair is a dark Blonde like mine, Timotei blonde highlights is brilliant, and anything with camomile in is brilliant. You dont have to have highlights to use any product for blonde highlighted-light brown hair. you wont be able to go light with an organic colour. going light always involves using preoxide, form 8% - 40%.
continuing to lighten your hair will defo damage it in the long run. how about trying to highlight it? you can get away with longer spells inbetween applications as the colour is not block and wont look as obvious. i went as long as 6 months between getting my roots done!!
also, only get a partial head of highlights done, such as top and sides. it gives the illusion of a full head of beautiful light hair, but you'll geive you hair a chance to recover.
if you can get away with leaving it longer between colours, say 3-4 months, could you afford to got to hairdressers? it'll cost around 拢50 for the cut and colour....

Dying your hair at home is okay, I dyed mine at home and my hair is still soft. If you are concerned though you could try henna, it's natural and it works. Good luck!

Dying your hair strips it of moisture. But, it won't ';permanently damage'; your hair if you get decent conditioner.
Typically, the conditioner that comes with the hair dye is really good stuff. Leave it on for 2 minutes and wash it out after you've washed the dye out.. then use it every other day after that.
It keeps your hair moisturized and undamaged.
I have dyed my hair more times than I can count (I can show you a million photos with like over 100 different shades of hair, no lie) and I've bleached it at least 50 times in my life. I get bored with my hair color. I've been dying my hair for 12 years... But you know what? My hair's not damaged... far from it! Because I take good care of it. I buy good products - that's the key.

I would say shop around for a hairdresser to do your highlights. If you were doing any other colour at home, then it's usually fine. Start playing with bleach and highlights and you're asking for trouble.
Firstly not all highlighting kits brought in the shop are that good (or strong for that matter) as you have to take into account the colour of you natural hair so you are more than likely unable to get the blondness you want. Also, you have to watch out for the pigments in your natural hair colouring as this will have an effect on the colour of the high-lites - and I'm sure you don't want to be left with green shades or brassy types of blonde.
If you go to a stylist, they can recommend more varieties in terms of shades of blonde that will not only suite your skin, but will inhance your own hair colour too, and not only that, they can even incorporate 2 or even 3 shades of highlights in one go at no extra cost. Plus you get a nice decent cut %26amp; blow dry afterwards.
I found personally the only time it gets costly for colouring like this is the longer the hair as they use more product and it takes more time hence the cost of having hi-lights/ low-lites done in a salon.
Shop around and get quotes from local salons around your area. It's better than having to pay out in the long run for a -re-fix of a bodge job you've done yourself!
i dyed my hair on my own using a loreal kit that put some highlights in it and it was great they didnt grow out to quicky and the packet was good qualtity an not to expensive .it didnt ruin my hair and the roots wernt at all obviious i think continuous dying of the whole head ruins the hair.
I've dyed my hair lots at home (I recommend Garnier Multi-lights kit) and it's in great condition. However, it was quite greasy to start with so if you have dry hair it could dry it too much and lead to damage.
any dying of your hair is bad but like you said when your new hair grows through its fresh,ive dyed mine so many times and its not that bad in quite good condition really,bleach is bad though!
Hi, anytype of hair dye is bad for your hair even the one they use at the hairdressers. There all the same. As long as when you dye your hair yoou keep it in good condition, deep conditioning it with a hair mask and using heat protection spray and a leave in conditioner then your hair shouldnt suffer as much.
Nice and Easy isnt for highlighting you hair I recommend Jerome Russels Bblonde, but then you have the problem of redoing your roots when your hair shows through which can be a problem as it was for me. But I woould only recommed Nice and Easy if you are going to go all one colour, these dyes go on quite dark no matter how light your hair is,
So I recmmend Garnier Nutiresse, they light brown colours are nice and they last ages. And these tend to ccondition the hair as well as dyeing it..
Sometimes if you dye your hair and dont look after it with conditioners it can ruin the hair and it wont grow back. This was happening to me as I was dying my hair nearly every 2 weeks and my hair was weak and snapping off and wouldnt grow. I stopped dying it for a few months and once my hair had started growing again then the hair at the root was healthy, I now have long hair which I ve always wanted.

By African American, I'll assume you mean you're black. If you are, then your hair is very delicate to colour and therefore be extremely cautious on your timing. As for what colour would best suit you...stay in the warm tones. Anything red, copper, caramel...and so on. If you go off warm, it'll look too fake, but if that's what you want...something to stick out, then try add-ons. They're inexpensive, removeable and reusable. You can mix and match too. go to ur hairdresser and say you want a long strip of dark blue ( I recomend a dark blue..it will look better) extention put into your hair...they are usually only about 拢5 a strip ..and they apply it under the top layer of your hair....this would be your best option because..if you want your hair dyed..seeing as your hair is so dark anyway..the hairdresser would have to totally bleach the parts you want blue ..which would damage your hair...then put the blue on. And then if you dont like it..you are stuck with it..
Atleast if you have these blue extentions put in..underneath the top layer of your hair..if you don't like them..u can just have them taken out without damagin your hair...plus its cheaper!

From what I understand, they don't accept any hair that has had any kind of colour treatments at all, and I am not sure about permanents either. The reason being that it's not virgin hair, and requires special handling. This adds considerably to the cost, as well as looking poor in a short time. The hair will not continually grow and it cannot be trimmed.
Any permanent hair colouring treatment will bleach your hair. That is a given. It must. The colouring chemicals contain bleach and tint in one operation. The hair cannot be coloured without the bleach. They don't tell you that because who really cares, but it's important to know. Even black has bleach in it. (I know -- too weird)
When it fades, or you remove the artificial colour, there is none of your own natural hair colour left in the hair, or it will mostly be the orange/gold that you have since red colours are the hardest to bleach out. When your lovely brown fades, the blue comes out first, leaving only the red/orange or the brassiness that we all know. It's not that the colour turns brassy, but that the blue has been washed out, and your own orange is what is showing through. (study the colour wheel)
A semi-permanent colour will not bleach your hair, but you cannot get lighter colours with it.

Okay! My hair are really dark and i already have medium golden blond pikaboo highlights. The thing is that now i want some purple highlights but i want them to stand out not ust blend with my natural colour. do i have to bleach my hair ?

Well.. It depends. I have dark brown hair almost black. I got some pink and purple. For the purple yes, they had to bleach it. But, the thing is.. get a really dark purple so that it will blend at first and when you wash it a couple of times it will fade into a lighter shade and will show. But, also.. beware.. bleach turns into.. wihteish-greyish sometimes so be careful =P
Also.. if you do end up getting some purple don't wash your hair everyday skip a day or two. And ALWAYS wash it in cold water to get it to stay in longer. -Oh and I recommend you get some colour safe conditioner and/or shampoo.
Mine lasted about 2 months?

Also there is hair dye that is made to be on dark hair but the colors are pink red blond and white (bleach blond). I think its called Color Rays

id say if you go to Boots or Superdrug they usually have blonde bleaching kits that you can use. Id suggest bleaching the strands you want coloured first then use a purple hair dye like Stargazer (from hippy shops) or Schwarzkopf鈥檚 Live Color XXL

I want to dye my hair a darker color. Currently, I have light brown hair with natural blonde highlights. My mom loves my natural highlights, but people have always told me I should dye my hair one color. I think that looks prettier anyways. If I dye my hair a couple shades darker, will I have roots? If I were you I would leave it alone. If you really want darker hair I would suggest getting lowlights instead. That just means you put darker streaks in instead of lighter ones. There will be roots, you will have to dye it every 2 to 3 months to keep up on it, and it will be impossible to get it back without growing it out. As far as you natural highlights are concerned they may end up darker than the rest of your hair. Mine did because it picks up the dye more. I think it's okay to dye your hair a darker color, although having it ';all one color'; can look really flat and artificial. If you have highlights in your hair now, you will likely have lighter pieces after you color your hair. You might want to try a temporary color that washes out after 8-12 shampoos. They actually seem to damage the hair less and you get to try out a new color within a few shades of your natural color. Oh...you will have roots, but it will be way less obvious with the temp color as it fades over time. Good luck!
Yes you will have a line of regrowth, going darker is harder to get out if you dont like it. So I wouldnt go really dark if I were you. You will also loose your natural hilights, so maybe just use a semipermanent or temporary color first. good luck
i think natural highlights are beautiful. keep in mind, that no matter what you dye it there will always be roots that you'll probably have to update every other month. before you dye it, try using one of the loreal temporary washes to see how you like it. if you don't mind keeping up with your hair, i think light brown hight lights and dark brown lowlights look gorgeous. you are a luck one with in between shades though. you could go darker or lighter without it flushing out your skin tone.

You can use it. Don't expect much or any change in color if your hair is brown. It has more effect on natural blond hair. But it can give you a pretty sheen and highlights. No it won't turn your hair orange and its not permanent, it is very gentle and subtle.

You can use it. Don't expect much or any change in color if your hair is brown. It has more effect on natural blond hair. But it can give you a pretty sheen and highlights. No it won't turn your hair orange and its not permanent, it is very gentle and subtle.

what are the risks of highlighting or colouring hair? I colour and highlight my hair frequently and have had yellow highlights for about three years and then i coloured my hair red. Now the red is fading and i wanna try a very dark purple/ navy blue but can some risks come out of this?

i dont think that there will be any problems as long as you have a healthy diet with all of the necessary vitamins. you also should shampoo and condition your hair regularly. also, be sure to go to the best salon in your area....that will help!Risks of Colouring, highlighting my hair?
