i have very dark black hair and want to highlight it. but i dont wanna go to a salon. how can i highlight my hair at home? what color will look good? is highlighting hair with the cap good? what is bleach kits for?Highlighting hair?
I have mousey brown hair and EVERY time I highlight or bleach it at home it ALWAYS goes ginger - you don't stand a chance in hell of not looking like a Duracell battery!!!
Then I go and try and 'repair' the damage I have just done MYSELF and dye it brown and it goes GREEN - tomato sauce and/or red based dye or not, you will still have a green tint that positively glows in the light!!!
DON'T do it yourself at all - go to a professional!!!!!!!!
Learn from MY mistakes (I never bloody do - so don't let my suffering be in vain!!!)Highlighting hair?
hair.
if you want to get you hair highlighted but not go to the salon then maybe you should try going to some shop's and buying some colour.brown and blond would look good.
but going to a salon is very important because home highlighting might not work.
good luck.
my natural color is very dark brown almost black, I have tried using at home kits and its a TOTAL disaster!! It turns VERy orange and brassy. After that i went to a salon to get them fixed and have some what good looking highlights and they have completely ruined my hair :( I once had Mid-back lenght hair and now its just below my shoulder's because of all the damage I had to cut alot of my hair off and I still have these stupid layers in my hair that are from breakage.. So BE CAREFUL.. dont try to go too light and make sure you go to a salon to have it done , And they are using a low volume. Good Luck
If you have Black hair you need to go to a Salon.
You really should go to a salon. However, if you want to try something which will wear away naturally consider henna.

If you highlight your hair your self you will regret it, you will not get the desired color and you might damage your hair. So get it done professionally,Or go to a cosmetology school some times its 50% off.Pluss highlight are out for fall and wintter,so get them for spring and summer.
Trust me, please. Go to a salon. I have tried the at home kits twice. You end up with orange hair. If you leave it on for a long time, it might turn blonde, BUT, you will have VERY painful burns on your scalp. Your highlighted hair will be the texture of dried hay, and will fall out. Its way worth going to a salon.
Use your head and go to a salon. You have no idea what you're doing but you want to do it anyway? If your hair falls out it's your fault.
If you had lighter hair, I would say give it a shot and do it at home. But if you have very dark black hair you should see a professional. You'll end up spending more money on a corrective color at a salon after screwing it up at home. There are so many levels of pigment to be lifted from dark hair when you're highlighting it and i will garuntee that you'll need to tone your hair after lifting it to achieve the color you're looking for. I also wouldnt recommend going more than 3 or 4 levels lighter than your natural color. otherwise you will look very dated.
caps arent a good idea. when you put a cap on your head and pull random sections of hair through the little holes on the cap, you'll grab hair from places that wont blend with the outcome of the color.
at home bleach kits are not a good idea either. Your stylist will be able to custom mix the right color formulation for your hair.
I always recommend seeing a professional for ALL hair services, no matter what type of hair you have!
Go to a salon. Dark black hair is VERY hard to cover and you will probably come out orange if you don't use the correct mix of products.
