Could my hair be highlighted?

Naturally, I have very dark brown hair, almost black. I was wondering if blond highlights would work. My mum told me that it wouldn't, but I'm not sure if that's true, or if she's just saying it because she doesn't want me to do it. If it could be done, would it just be done straight onto my hair or what? This probably seems like a stupid question with an obvious answer, but I really have no idea.

Thanks

Highlights are done with a highlight cap, so the bleach won't touch your scalp.

For that reason, you can use very high volume bleach. I'd say 40 vol, but higher does exist, but if you try that on your own you're likely to end up with lots of damage.

Get a highlight cap and 40 vol bleach, and watch carefully. If it starts feeling stretchy, its getting damaged and should be washed out. Problem with highlight caps is its impossible to get the same bits of hair again, so you have to get it right the first time.

For this reason, its a MUST that you do a strand test. Cut a piece of hair off which won't be noticeable, and mix up a small amount of bleach to test if it will go the right colour without getting too damaged. If that works, your fine to go ahead with it.

You might get away with 30 vol developer, but your hair is very dark ( i assume not dyed )

(incase you didn't understand some of that, developer/vol is referring to the strength of peroxide you mix with the hair bleach powder. You probably want blue bleach to help reduce orange tones. You can buy this in some supermarkets or chemists like Boots, but its really best to go to a professional hair shop, like sallys and ask a worker for some help.)

Good luck!Could my hair be highlighted?
