Hair painting or Highlighting?

Are foil highlights really necessary for roots?

Would hair painting be a better option to cover the amount of roots I have (after months of highlighting) and for framing the face (so that I can pull my hair back without looking weird)?

I currently have very chunky foil highlights. I am happy with my current color and coverage except that:

1) my stylist does not seem to be able to color ALL of the hair framing my face (what would be bangs if I had them cut),

2) she still used foils to touch up my roots which takes *forever* and doesn't really get and far down to the roots as I think she should.

Because of this I am looking for a more experienced stylist; and I need to know exactly what to ask for when calling around salons, so that I can go in knowing that they can do what I want.Hair painting or Highlighting?
hi there,

if you like your stylist %26amp; don't want to take a chance on using someone who doesn't know your hair like your stylist does then i would ask her first since she's the one u trust with your hair. highlighting is the best answer to your question since you r happy with your current color. you could ask your stylist to try to get closer to your roots %26amp; let her know that u r not really satisfied 100% with the way she's currently doing your hair %26amp; then ask her for some suggestions on what your options are for this problem. also u need to know that foiling your hair is the best answer %26amp; unfortunately it takes time for the foils to come up to the color u want. if your stylists is good %26amp; can't get closer to the roots then she will ask another sylist on what else can be done. so you should stick with the stylist who knows your hair %26amp; ask her first before u go to someone else who doesn't know your hair! your stylist will be able to help you out if you ask her fist. so good luck %26amp; don't be afraid to ask. she can't help u out if she doesn't know that u r not 100% satisfied if you don't tell her. bb, nobrethequeenHair painting or Highlighting?
Or you could get a Root Touch Up kit and do it yourself. Look in the hair dye aisle.
personally,i think foil is way better then frosting, and somtimes hair dressers don't get the highlight all the way to the the root which you would have better control over that with paint on highlights.Good Luck! you might want to try a different hairstylist that specializes in hair color, you might pay a little more, but in the long run i think you would be much happier.
OK first thing is stick to foiling, the results are much nicer than having it done with a cap and with foils you and your stylist can choose where the colour goes. also getting close to the roots is hard with foils, you need to be careful that the dye don't leek out of the foils. when applying colour you should leave a few millimeters space in case it does leak. if you think it takes ages ask your stylist to do a t-colour, witch is simply foiling around the face for when you tie your hair up, and on the top. when the foils are in the look like the letter t. keep to your stylist, she obviously knows what she is doing or else she would never qualified. just communicate more with your stylist and let her know your feelings, if she dont know it dont help. but i hope i have been a help to you.
