Highlighting my hair after coloring?

I color my hair myself. I have done highlights for so long, my natural color is lost, and I would like to put a base color (similar to my own natural color) in, and then highlight. How soon can I highlight after putting the base color in? I'm not interested in one of the kits with the base and highlights, as I am only really good with the cap and hook highlighting...Highlighting my hair after coloring?

i did that with my hair once. i dyed my black hair to a reddish brown color and thre days laters added ';blonde'; high lites....well after washing the hi lite creme from my hair my hi lites were about three different colors from light red to a golden brown to blonde. it actully turned out nice. received alot of compliments on my hair. so you never know. life is full of risks. if your willing to take a risk then try it out
