Dying highlighted hair? Please help.?

My hair is highlighted now. Natural color is dark brown, almost black. Its growing out making it blonde on the bottom and dark on the top. I want my hair completely this dark color. I talked to a hair color co. and they said I must mix two different colors of dye (completely different than my desired dark brown) to make dark brown with my highlights. Can't I just buy a box of black/brown (dark brown) and do it this way?Dying highlighted hair? Please help.?
If you buy a box of color you are getting only ONE color- and since your hair is TWO different colors right now, your hair will look different on the top than it does on the bottom where the highlights are.

Go to a beauty supply store like sally's and get a protein filler. It's proten that your hair needs to absorb color. You can put it on the places where your hair is colored before you dye your hair to ensure that the color comes out even.

OR if you just wanna get stuff out of the box, only dye the highlighted part of your hair with it- make sure it's a darker shade than your natural color. When you are done apply it, just take a come and come it through the top of your hair to blend it- but you don't need to dye ALL of your hair.Dying highlighted hair? Please help.?
You could do it your way and you can do it there way...But honestly I wouldn't suggest box color. expescially if you have highlights chances are when you do it yourself it not going to come out the color you need, you need to have your whole head pretreated because of your highlights...I know this was really not the answer you wanted to hear, because most women prefer to do things on there own. But you don't want to be walking around with some jacked up hair. Well good luck luv..
I wouldn't try to do it yourself...that can get pretty tricky. Go to a salon and have it fixed. It doesn't have to be expensive either. Look up your local cosmetology schools and have it done by students. Don't worry, they know what they are doing and an instructor is always there. I have always done my hair this way and I have never been unhappy...plus, it's usually about 20 bucks!
Yeah, you can just buy a box of black/brown hair dye. Make sure it's permanent, otherwise it won't last long. The black/brown should cover up your highlights with no problems.
that's what i would've prob. did but if the hairdressers told you what you have to do, i would take their word for it and do it that way.
